Today, whitening your teeth is as widespread as painting your nails.
In fact, the same trained cosmetic professionals who fully developed safe nail and hair care technologies created the present-day Cosmetic Teeth Whitening industry. They invented many of the products and procedures used so widely today in homes, salons, and even dentist's offices across the United States.
Less than a decade into it, Cosmetic Teeth Whitening is already an $11 Billion industry. And the fight for a slice of that pie is just now brewing.
The Council for Cosmetic Teeth Whitening (CCTW) formed to represent and defend the small and medium-sized companies that founded and led the Cosmetic Teeth Whitening industry. Operating in one of world's fastest growing market segments, these companies soon found themselves opposed by one of the strongest lobbies in the United States: the national and state dental associations. CCTW's first members banded together in January 2008 in an effort to prove the fundamental truth of our businesses - teeth whitening is a cosmetic process, not an invasive dental procedure.
More and more trained specialists are getting into the Cosmetic Teeth Whitening business; convenient and inexpensive service centers are cropping up in malls and on Main Streets across America. Some soon find themselves under legal and regulatory attacks from local dentists charging much more money for similar procedures and results. CCTW members work together to solve these problems for each other, taking lessons learned from state-to-state and helping educate policymakers and regulators on the foundations of the Cosmetic Teeth Whitening business.
